CraftTech: hybrid frameworks for textile-based practice

چکیده
The fast-evolving nature of contemporary lifestyles means an increasing demand for smart materials that can adapt to the changing needs of consumers. While the market for smart materials is forecast to be worth USD $80 billion by 2020,1 to date there has been little research on fundamental design processes for smart materials. Studies focus on technical application and functionality but neglect the integral development process. The tendency to skew research and development towards a technology focus might have resulted in unsuitable products that are not readily adopted by the mass market. As noted by Dunne,2 many existing smart wearables show little regard for aesthetics and are inconvenient to maintain, so consumers are unlikely to utilise them in their everyday lives.

A Computational Framework for Interactive Form Finding of Textile Hybrid Structures through Dynamic Topology Control
Textile Hybrid Structures refer to the coupling of tensile formand bendingactive components into a stiffer construct. Several computational frameworks built upon the Dynamic Relaxation method have been developed for interactive explorations of material and geometric properties during form finding. However, efforts are still required when addressing dynamic alterations of topology without comple...
متن کاملManufacturing Studies for 3d Hybrid Yarn Based Textile-reinforced Composite Trays
Hybrid yarns consisting of thermoplastic filaments and reinforcing glass filaments offer a high potential for highly efficient manufacture technologies for composite structures. The development of an adapted manufacturing technology for thermoplastic 3D shaped textile-reinforced composite trays is presented. In this context a manufacturing concept was developed, the drapability of different tex...
متن کاملFrameworks for Computational Design of Textile Micro-architectures and Material Behavior in Forming Complex Force-active Structures
Material behavior can be defined as the confluence of associative rules, contextual pressures and constraints of materialization. In more general terms, it can be parameterized as topologies, forces and materiality. Forming behavior means resolving the intricate matrix of deterministic and indeterministic factors that comprise and interrelate each subset of these material-inherent conditions. T...
متن کاملTextile electrodes woven by carbon nanotube-graphene hybrid fibers for flexible electrochemical capacitors.
Functional graphene-based fibers are promising as new types of flexible building blocks for the construction of wearable architectures and devices. Unique one-dimensional (1D) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and 2D graphene (CNT/G) hybrid fibers with a large surface area and high electrical conductivity have been achieved by pre-intercalating graphene fibers with Fe3O4 nanoparticles for subsequent CVD ...
متن کاملA hybrid evolutionary algorithm for tuning a cloth-simulation model
Textile simulation models are notorious for being difficult to tune. The physically based derivations of energy functions, as mostly used for mapping the characteristics of real-world textiles on to simulation models, are labour-intensive and not guarantee satisfactory results. The extremely complex behaviour of textiles requires additional adjustment over a wide-range of parameters in order to...
